Listen to songs to master English

Listen to songs to master English

Picture from: smashingtopten.com

Learning with songs is a very effective and amusing event. Rhythm and sound help memory processes creating a lot of extra electro-chemical links between brain cells. These synaptic connections between neurons (nerve cells) maintain long-term memory. Lyrics, poems with rhymes, and songs can be memorized easier, because they are a collection of some rhythmic and similar sounds.

http://www.esolcourses.com/topics/learn-english-with-songs.html is a very useful site for an ESL student. If you like, there are tons of interactive online lessons on the site. “Learning English with songs” is one of them.

But, do not limit yourself with the exercises. Listen to every type of songs which contain English lyrics. Try to sense the meaning. Do not force yourself to understand all of the words. Take it easy! Relax! Listen to the music.

When you catch the whole story, and want to grab more details; then you should search for the lyrics of the song on the internet. Check the words that you misunderstood or didn’t know the exact meaning. Study the words and the line structures. (In lyrics, there might be some grammatical mistakes. Be aware of them.)

If you can sing the song in a high volume, it will be very helpful for you to internalize the details.

Have fun!

These murals are painted in the concept of Mural-Ist by Kadikoy Municipal. The activities of this year will be completed by the end of September.

Mural is an art that can be easily shared and accepted by people. It is an uprising against gray. They color the city walls and bring them to life.

I congratulate Kadikoy municipal for its efforts and supports, and I hope that these type of activities to be continued in larger areas and in better circumstances.

Super effective technique EFT

Super effective technique EFTHave you ever heard about the super effective technique EFT? This term is the abbreviation of the words “Emotional Freedom Techniques”.

EFT is based on the traditional Chinese energy system, and it is modernized by Gary Craig on 1990’s. The technique is applied by tapping to certain acupuncture points on the skin. These points are especially placed on the head, on the chest, and on the fingers.

Traditional Chinese energy system says that any blockages on the energy system are the main reasons of the physical and mental disturbances. On the other hand, when these blockages are removed from the body, consequently, the related illnesses also disappear.

In Emotional Freedom Techniques, these blockages are dissolved by tapping eighteen acupuncture (or acupressure) points in a row.

EFT is effective on all type of stresses, worries, and fears. Besides the emotional problems, physical pains are also could be controlled by applying the technique.

EFT can be applied even by children. Because it is very easy and simple technique. However, severe problems must be resolved only by EFT professionals.

If you want to learn more about the technique, please visit eft.axtelsoft.com.

You must be ready to be surprised when you try it!

A guide to hypnotic phrases for success

A guide to hypnotic phrases for success

Hypnotic phrases are as important as hypnotic words. Especially in the titles of your writings, they have an extra importance. If your titles are eye-catching and striking then you can attract your visitors and persuade them to read your copy. You have a maximum of 3 seconds to draw their attention. If you can not succeed to catch their attention, they will leave your page immediately and you will lose them forever. They will not give you a second chance, because there are millions of alternative pages on the internet waiting for them.

Some of the visitors might be there by mistake because of a false redirection of a search engine. But if you have an attractive, inviting title on your page, you can convert that mistake to a beneficial opportunity.

Of course, you must also use some visual devices such as images, fonts, and colors on your page. However in order to persuade your visitors to charge more then 3 seconds on your page, you must give them short, meaningful, interesting, curious, and useful messages.

Hypnotic words and phrases helps you to be successful, step by step.

Let me give you some title examples: (Titles in parentheses have hypnotic phrases)

Earning money (A guide to money earning)
You can balance your weight (A blueprint to balance your weight)
Public speaking (A few success stories on public speaking)
Increasing your web visitors (A free and easy way to increase your web visitors)

You can use hypnotic phrases and hypnotic words in sub-titles, or in normal sentences. But, never overuse them.

Here is a list of some hypnotic phrases:
a blueprint for
a child could do it
a free and easy way to
a good friend of mine
a guide to
mind-blowing
it is not rocket science
high tech
limited time offer

If you prefer using hypnotic word and phrases systematically, you should learn Ericksonian hypnotic language patterns.

I will write a more detailed article on this subject in the coming days.

Follow me.

Multi-level English Learning with Voscreen

I discovered a new method for ESL learning.

Voscreen

It has five main levels (voSteps):

  • Beginner
  • Elementary
  • Intermediate
  • Upper
  • Advanced

And, there are lots of structures: Am, Is, Are; Can; Present Continuous; Relative Clauses; Imperatives; Modals; etc.

Sixteen languages are available: Albanian, Arabic, Azerbaijani, Bosnian, Croatian, English, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Persian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Turkish, Ukrainian.

You can install the application on your IOS or Android system. Or, if you like you can run it online on your PC or laptop.

Voscreen shows you a small fragment from a video with a maximum length of 15 seconds. There is an English sentence in the video. You listen to it, and select an answer from the two alternatives at the bottom of the screen. Answers are in your selected language. It might be English or any other options. You may change your (answering) language whenever you wanted.

By clicking the red triangle button at the middle of the screen, you may repeat and watch the scene as many times you like. When you click to the bottom left box, two answers are shown, and a timer starts. If you click to the bottom right box, the two answers are shown, a timer starts, and as an addition, the sentence that you listened to also is shown in English.

Before the timer stops, you should select your answer by clicking into the appropriate box. If you make no selection, or give an incorrect answer, you lose some points. Your score is shown at the top of the screen.

Yet, I do not know all of the details about the program, but I liked it. It looks that there is an artificial intelligence system beneath the stage.

Give it a try! I’m sure you will like it too!..

Internet slang

Internet slang

There is an interesting web site on the internet: http://www.internetslang.com.

I found it while I was searching for the meaning of ESL. There it is explained as “English as Second Language”.

There are also some other related abbreviation explanations:

  • EFL: English as a Foreign Language
  • EPL: English Premier League
  • TOEFL: Test of English as a Foreign Language

Also some most popular slang words are listed as follows:

  • MUAHZ : Kisses
  • DUB: Twenty (dollars, dollars of drugs, inch rims)
  • VNH: Very Nice Hand (in online card games, especially poker)
  • TWEET: A post on Twitter
  • Y2K: Year 2000

In formal English, slung is treated as if “not existing”. Actually, it is very important in daily talks. So, as an ESL learner, we should learn it too. Otherwise, we can not catch the soul of the streets, or friendly talks. We don’t have to use it regularly, but we must understand it.

Without understanding slang, it is not possible to learn a language fully. So, your schedule must also cover some slang. Internet is very rich on this subject. Ask Google!..

Hypnotic words unleashed

Hypnotic wordsDo you have a web page? Then you must know how to use hypnotic words in your writings.

Are you a good seller? Then, you must be using hypnotic words – or power words- already in your conversations.

If you are a teacher, or a manager in any level, or you have children, or you are in politics then you ought to know the miracles of the hypnotic words and phrases.

In short, if you are dealing with people, and want to be good at managing them almost without any resistance then you must become an expert on hypnotic words.

Hypnotic words are mind catching. They draw and then redirect attention to the desired area if used carefully. Most of these words introduce you as an expert on any subject to your audience, maintains rapport, and invites to action.

However you must use these words naturally in your sentences. If they look like an odd patch, their effect are reversed.

Before giving a small list of these words, let me give you a few clues how to use hypnotic words:

  • Be natural
  • Believe in what you say
  • Believe in your message
  • Do not hurry
  • Support your sayings with your body language
  • Do not talk -or write- too much
  • Give your message clearly
  • Do not overuse hypnotic words

Now, I will give you a simple list.
Please check all of these words, and select a few of them which fit best for you. Do not select more than 5 words. Then study these words. Make exercises. Write down some sentences including any of your selected words. Read them aloud. Continue exercising until you feel completely natural. When you become an expert on using them, you can add some new words to your toolbox.

Simple hypnotic word list (sorted alphabetically):

  • absolutely
  • accomplish
  • achieve
  • clear-cut
  • compelling
  • critical
  • instantly
  • shocking
  • simple
  • step-by-step

If you do not resonate with a word, do not use it. You must own your hypnotic words. They must become an integral part of you.

I will share some other hypnotic words in my coming articles. Also you can share your own words, too.

Thank you for reading.

Haiku are snapshots from nature

Haiku are snapshots from natureMaybe you’ve heard what haiku is. Maybe you write, or waiting a glorious time to start writing.

It is generally defined as the shortest form of poetry. It contains a maximum of 17 syllables. For some people that number is an upper boundary, and for some other it is an exact syllable count.

Haiku is a traditional Japanese poetry form. Its roots extend to the seventeenth century. It is a descendant form of tanka which has 31 syllables in 5 lines. The first 3 lines are named as hokku, and it is followed by two 7 syllable lines. Hokku’s lines contain 5, 7, and 5 syllables.

First haiku culture started with Basho who separated hokku from tanka as an independent poetry form.

The two important haiku poets who followed Basho, are Buson and Issa.

In the twentieth century, western poetry discovered haiku.

Now it is a popular form in modern poetry.

Haiku deals with nature. It is like a snapshot that freezes a moment. It is minimal. It does not try to tell what you feel. Instead, it paints a sketch for you to complete the required details in your mind.

Here are a few examples from me:

haiku 4
grass green —
a butterfly flaps its wings
a tornado starts

haiku 6
stars falling down
from the sky’s window —
mirror in water

There is another poem type which uses exactly the same form as haiku. It is called senryu.

Senryu too, has 3 lines containing a total of 17 syllables. However in senryu, you are not limited with the nature and the natural events. In senryu, you can write about people, even you can add yourself into the poem. You have no limitations in the context.

Here is a senryu example:
senryu 36
when the street is dry
you perceive no sound of tyre —
tyres are singing now

In the modern era, if you live in a cosmopolitan super-city, it is more likely to write senryu instead of haiku. I am doing so. Because the untouched, natural “nature” is very difficult to be found in the middle of the modern life.

Whether haiku, or senryu I bet you can write! You don’t have to be a famous poet. But, it is a very nice and practical way of expressing your feelings and thoughts in a few minutes.

You must give it a try! You will love it!

Superconductor at room temperature: stanene

I have been published the following sentences in gurmezin.com recently. It looks without any problems to me. Do you agree with me?

Superconductor at room temperature: stanene

Credits: link.apps.org

A new superconductor coming soon

A team of members from Stanford University and some Chinese institutions claim that they found a method to create stanene.

Stanene is a theoretical two-dimensional material which has a honeycomb-like structure with the thickness of a single atom. It is assumed to work in normal room temperatures almost with no resistance to electricity. Therefore it can be used in electronic devices without any loss due to heating. With the hundred per cent efficiency, electronic devices will use less energy resulting a longer battery life. Also, smartphones will have no heating problems.

Stanene is very similar to graphene. However it is made up of stannum (tin) instead of carbon atoms.

Laboratory research groups in Germany, China, and United States are trying to find a practical method to produce stanene. Maybe in a few years we will be using stanene layers in the integrated circuits.
